case 6 pt. 1
I’m back! I’m sorry about the few weeks of silence. I had a
lot of technical, as well as personal issues that needed my attention. But hopefully,
now I’ll be able to post regularly again. That’s the plan anyway. As promised, I
have the first week of our Jack the Ripper series. Today’s post is simply going
to be an introduction. Not a lot of detail today, but that will be coming in
the upcoming weeks. I can assure you that I’m going to slam you guys and gals with
plenty of facts and details. Now, let’s get down to business.
Jack the Ripper
Dates: August-November 1888 (confirmed) 1891 (speculated)
Location: White Chapel (London), England
Victims: Mary Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride,
Catherine Eddowes, Mary Kelly (confirmed)
Details:
In a
time when people relied on less than honest newspapers to bring them their
news, crime was a high seller. Which is why in the summer on 1888 when a killer
was ravaging the community of White Chapel, people bought these papers filled with
scandalous lies and inaccurate assumptions in droves. They ate it up, and the newspaper
owners knew this. They fed on people’s curiosity like a cat on milk. They knew
the more lurid details that lined the pages and columns, the more they’d sell. And
sell they did! Off of the backs of 5 innocent victims. The “Canonical Five”; Mary
Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, Mary Kelly are the
“Ripper’s” five known victims. These women were savagely murdered and mutilated
by this unidentified brute. Jack is the first known celebrity serial killer. He
gained fame, and he has kept it for over 100 years. He spurred the new field of
criminalistics known as “Ripperology”. Many have studied him and his kills. Many
have speculated. But none have identified him yet. That, however, has not
stopped the advancements in the case. The next 5 weeks will break down these
crimes and pose possible suspects and theories. Let’s delve into the world of
the dark, shall we?
