case 3 pt 1
This week’s post is going to be a little on the short side,
due to the fact that I have been called into work and don’t have the time to
properly lay out the case right now. However, this case is so massive that I wouldn’t
be able to fit it all into one post anyway. So, I’m going to stretch it out
over the next three weeks to ensure that I do it justice. This week I’m going
to give a brief overview of the case. Next week I’ll go more in depth into the
victims and methodology. And the following week, I’ll discuss media
involvement, evidence, and suspects/theories. So, without further ado, let’s
discuss the Zodiac Killer.
Zodiac
Location: California
Date: Murders: 1968-1969
Mailed threats: 1969-1974
Victims: Confirmed: David
Faraday, Betty Lou Jensen, Darlene Ferrin, Mike Mageau, Cecelia Shepard, Bryan
Hartell, Paul Stine Unconfirmed: a host of other murders claimed in various
letters to newspapers
Details:
The late
60’s saw a terrifying time for the residents of California as a brutal killer
was attacking young couples in savage ways. Thriving on the infamy, the killer,
later dubbing himself “Zodiac”, stoked the fire of fear and paranoia by
demanding press coverage in exchange for claimed protection against adding more
victims to his ever-growing list. His crimes were savage and terrifying, and he
was just smart enough (or lucky enough) to stay out of the grasp of the police.
For nearly 50 years, the Zodiac has gone unidentified, but the legends of his
crimes live on.
